Christopher Demers

College II
Conception Seminary College

My name is Christopher Demers. I was born in Omaha, and I lived there until I was five-and-a-half years old. My family then moved to Columbus where we lived for 15 years. The last two school years were spent taking classes at Central Community College in Hastings but still living at home on weekends and in the summer. At the same time I finished my diesel technology degree, my parents moved to Grimes, IA (Des Moines area). I moved to Albion for this past summer to work a second summer at the John Deere dealer there. At the end of July, I moved back in with my parents, and will be starting at Conception Seminary College this semester.

As for my home parish in the archdiocese, I would consider St. Isidore’s in Columbus to be my home parish. It was the parish my family was registered at while in Columbus. St. Isidore’s is one of three parishes in Columbus. The new church building was completed in the first half of 2007.

My discernment process started, well, I’m not sure where. I can remember a priest mentioning something about it when I was an altar server years ago. My dad asked me about it in high school, but at the time, I did not think I could do or would like some of the things a priest does; plus I was scared that I would not do it right or would mess up. Eventually I heard someone say something like: thoughts come from somewhere, they have to be put there. In my third semester at college, the thoughts related to the priesthood got really strong. After talking with my pastor, I called Fr. Hoesing, the Vocation Director.

Seminary looks to be a great learning, guiding, discerning opportunity. If you have thoughts of the priesthood, do not be scared. The Lord will help you through your journey!

In my spare time, I enjoy visiting family and riding bicycles.
