Propagation of the Faith
The name "catholic" means "universal" and the Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of the Faith exists to show and to support the universal mission of the Catholic Faith.
Today, through the work of the Propagation of the Faith, Catholics of the world are supported in their pastoral and evangelical work in over 1,000 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands. In these areas of the world where the Catholic populations are growing far faster than has ever happened in the Church's history, the Propagation of the Faith helps to bring humanitarian aid as well as funds for a priest's seminary education, a village's catechetical materials, transportation for an American priest, brother or sister who brings the Good News of Christ Jesus to people who are suffering a great deal.
Every year there are several collections for the Propagation of the Faith. World Mission Sunday is a fund for the Pontifical Mission Society as well as for the Catholic Near East Welfare Society which addresses the needs of Catholics in the sometimes very hostile lands of the Middle East and North Africa. Your support for World Mission Sunday goes to providing Catholics there with humanitarian aid as well as funding to help Eastern Catholic Churches in union with Rome.
The Mission Co-op, is an opportunity for mission societies and/or orders to come and speak to your parish about what they do and their need for your help. If you are a representative for a mission society and would like to take part in our mission co-op program go here to find out the procedure for applying.
The Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of the Faith is nothing else but "all of us committed to the worldwide mission of Jesus." Though we cannot go ourselves, we can support and send others to do the good work the missions provide. In this way, we are all involved in mission work.
