Anti-Pornography Task Force

The Archdiocese of Omaha Anti-Pornography Task Force was created in late 2007 to study and address concerns about pornography on behalf of the Church. Its primary audience is the Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Omaha – clergy, lay ministers/professionals, parents, grandparents young adults, children/youth.

The Task Force has three primary goals: 1) to increase awareness of the prevalence of pornography 2) to educate on the harmful and long-lasting effects of pornography 3) to provide support/healing resources to those who have been hurt by pornography.

Equally important is the Task Force’s commitment to educating the community on the Church teaching regarding healthy sexuality. Workshops in February 2009 were a great beginning to achieving Task Force goals of awareness and education. Ready-to-use teaching sheets were given to the workshop participants and are listed below for use in school and parish ministries.

Catholic clergy, lay leaders, educators, and representatives of other faiths again demonstrated their commitment by attending the 2nd Annual Anti-Pornography Workshops on February 7-8, 2010.

My House Recovery Groups

Women's Support and Healing

The My House Women's Group provides a safe place for women who have been affected by a loved one's struggles with pornography and / or sexual addiction. Group meetings are private and confidential, and new members must sign a confidentiality statement before the location and time are disclosed for this weekly meeting. The women's group combines practical recovery principals with some reading and discussion of The Good News about Sex and Marriage by Christopher West.

The group is facilitated by Ruth Leininger, MS. Ruth has a B.A. in Psychology and Education from Briar Cliff University, and an M.S. in Counseling from Creighton University. Ruth and her husband Tim became a part of the Permanent Diaconate upon Tim’s ordination in November 2005. She and Tim are certified Safe Environment Trainers and members of the Anti-Pornography Task Force for the Archdiocese.

Please contact Ruth Leininger with any questions or information about the women's group at 402.557.5664 or womensrecovery@archomaha.org.

Men's Recovery

The My House Men's Group provides prayer and recovery for every man's battle for sexual integrity. Group meetings are private and confidential, and new members must sign a confidentiality statement before the location and time are disclosed for these weekly meetings. Our meetings involve a practical approach to breaking free from pornography and lust, while growing as a man of God.

During group, we combine practical recovery strategies with reading and discussion of “The Good News about Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West. There is a weekly meeting available. As of November of 2009, there are dozens of men that have broken free from pornography for over one year by participation in groups like this in Kansas City Kansas and Colorado Springs, which is incredible compared to where many of us were in the past.

The group is facilitated by Deacon Tim Leininger. Tim was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in November 2005 and has been active in the ministry of reaching out and helping others to find a way back. Tim has dealt with his own road of struggle with pornography addiction. With the help of prayer, education and his wife’s tough love, Tim has been free of pornography since January of 2005. Tim didn’t have the benefit of recovery programs like this in his battle and is grateful that this program can be a tool to help others make their way back to wholeness and integrity.

If you are ready to take a stand with other men, contact Tim at 402.557.5663 or mensrecovery@archomaha.org. Tim and Ruth are also in contact with other Christian leaders in the area that provide groups for healing and support, and are learning from other national programs to help develop this ministry.
