About Us
Wayne State College Catholic campus ministry is an apostolate of the Archdiocesan Vocation Office. We began as a Catholic Club in 1892. In 1981, with the leadership of the Norfolk Missionary Benedictine Sisters and funds from the Archdiocesan Catholic School Office, we rented a room in the basement of the ELCA Welcome House. From 2001-2009 leadership and funding was provided through the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Office. In March 2002 we rented 1108 Walnut from WSC and moved into our temporary "home."
In May 2005 we moved into a property at 317 East 10th Street purchased for the Archdiocese of Omaha through a decision of Archbishop Eldon Francis Curtiss.
Mission
Empowered by the Spirit, all members of the Church on campus are called, according to their own gifts and talents, to be sign and instrument of the Kingdom of God in the academic world at Wayne State College. ~ U.S. Bishops’ 1985 pastoral letter Empowered by the Spirit.
Purpose
Our purpose is two-fold: to continue and build upon the faith formation of Catholic undergraduate and graduate students who attend Wayne State College and to be a visible Catholic presence in this academic environment.
Empowered by the Spirit of Jesus, we seek to:
Be a visible presence of the universal church in the academic environment
Empower students to be Spirit-led Catholic Christians who use their gifts and talents to live fully the Gospel of Jesus
Collaborate with student and campus organizations in order to bring our Catholic heritage to the academic forum, especially in the areas of spirituality and social justice
Network with the campus, the local parish, and the larger Church in providing social, spiritual, and service opportunities for Catholic students, faculty, and staff
Assist students in their transition from parish to campus as first year students, and from campus to parish upon their graduation.
