The Elementary and Secondary Educational Opportunity Act,
LB 50, The Elementary and Secondary Educational Opportunity Act, would establish and make available to individuals and businesses a state income-tax credit for a portion of donations made during the year to any state-certified, non-profit organization dedicated to providing tuition scholarships to help children from low- and moderate-income families to attend private schools. Many Nebraska families want educational options for their children, but they cannot make these choices because they lack the financial means to pay tuition costs. Greater access to privately-funded scholarships would enable families to make educational choices otherwise beyond their means. The tax credit would be a modest investment by the state for the purpose of providing individuals and businesses with an additional incentive to financially support scholarship programs. It would be a tool for scholarship-granting organizations to use in obtaining these donations. Please call or e-mail members of the Revenue Committee, identify your affiliation with a private school, and urge them to advance LB 50 to general File for debate. Committees initially determine the fate of bills, so please contact these senators even if they are not from your district. Revenue Committee members, district #, e-mail addresses and phone numbers:
Please help spread the word about LB 50 to other members of your parish/school community and request that they call or e-mail the senators on the revenue Committee and urge them to support and advance LB50.

Theology of the Body Training
On February 11, 2012, the Archdiocese will be offering a training session called Theology of the Body for Teens. While this program is excellent for assisting parents, teachers and catechists with chastity education, familiarizing ourselves with Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body can help us to see both the physical and spiritual aspects of the sacraments, to understand why good music is necessary for the liturgy, to understand the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ, and to more fully comprehend our eternal destiny. This is why the training session is valuable for both the married and unmarried as well as those in marriage prep, for catechists for kindergarten to adults, for parents, for clergy, and even for liturgists. Please click here for the registration flyer. Scholarships are available. Please contact Peter Kennedy with any questions at 402.557.5610.
