The Office of Young Adult Ministry is part of the Catholic Faith Formation Office. Our focus is on meeting the needs of young adults, 18-39, single, married, in parishes, and beyond parishes. We strive to connect young adults with: Jesus Christ, the Church, the mission of the Church, and a peer community in which their faith is nurtured and strengthened (Sons and Daughters of the Light).
We have resources to share with those in parish ministry who wish to consider their outreach to young adults. Some of the resources include:
‘Young Adult Works’- everything from surveys to planned prayer services to discussion topics for young adults; ‘Connecting Young Adults with the Word’- a homily help and discussion guide for young adults to look at and reflect on the Sunday readings;
‘Trainers Kit for Developing Ministry with Young Adults’-everything a parish needs to develop ministry with young adults is available in the office.
These resources can be shared with people in parishes.
Holy Java-a speaker series each fall in a coffee house atmosphere
Young Adult Book Club-which meets monthly at various coffee shops,
Young Adult Sunday/Sending Sunday-a day to recognize young adults in the parish community and those who may be leaving for jobs or school
Young Adult Lenten Journal-a prayer guide for Lent with journal entries written by young adults.
All parishes, whether they are aware of it or not, are involved in a great deal of ministry with young adults: RCIA, baptismal preparation, marriage preparation, Young Adult Beginning Experience, musicians and choirs, religious education (teachers & parents), youth ministry, etc. All of these moments plus many others are times when someone in the church community can reach out to young adults and invite them to be a part of the church community. Part of being a Christian is welcoming others in the name of Jesus Christ. Invite all in your parish to ‘own’ the mission of welcoming others into your church. Let them know that we need their gifts, and that we want them to be a part of our church.
